Engineers at play

Oh sure, you think “engineer” and you see pocket protectors and serious faces. But nooooo. Engineers, we find, are just plain fun. You give an engineer a challenge, a vision….well, a cartoon, and then, BAM, they try to make it real. We love that.

So to bust your all-work-no-play vision of engineers, we show you what engineers did after they saw Pixar’s “Up” movie with the flying house. In the animated movie, the old guy’s being forced to move, so he ties a bunch of party balloons to his house and off it flies. As we watch, most of us scoff; we laugh; we say “only in the movies”.

Not so with engineers. They say, “Cool! We could do that! Can we do that? Who wants to do that?” and off they go, calculating, recruiting other crazy people who orbit engineers in hopes of being sucked into their wild schemes so they can play along.  And then, next think you know (pun intended), they’ve built a house and attached a bunch of balloons. So check it out and see how well they did. It did get off the ground. But you’ll just shake your head about what happens after that. Take a look….click here.
