‘Tis the season for twinkling lights, beautiful holiday decorations, and gift-giving. We love the holiday cheer and Christmas spirit the season brings. No wonder it’s the most wonderful time of the year! Christmas also tends to bring a flood of cherished memories from holidays past.
To get everyone in the Christmas spirit this year, we asked some of our employees to share some of their fondest holiday memories.
What is your most cherished holiday memory?
“My daddy hiding jewelry he bought for me & my mom in the Christmas tree. He’d just smile and chuckle while mom & I climbed thru the tree looking for our jewels.” – Alesia Kinard
“When I used to believe in Santa Claus and the reindeers!” – Carol Hamilton
“Listening to my children wake each other up and go running down the hall and up the stairs on Christmas morning to find out what Santa left. (They always knew Santa came because the reindeer food they put out the night before was gone, Santa’s cookies were gone, and his snow-covered footprints were on the floor in front of the fireplace. They always checked to make sure he came to see them before running up the stairs to see what was around their tree.)” – Connie Sweeney
“Driving my mother-in-law around to look at Christmas lights shortly before she passed away from early onset Alzheimer’s. Her memory was failing badly but as we listened to classic Christmas songs, she somehow remembered every word and sang along at the top of her lungs. I think about that moment every year during the holidays.” – Michael Barton
“Every Christmas morning watching my kids open their presents.” – Robert McCary
“The birth of my son on 12/23. We spent Christmas in the hospital, and they brought him to me in a stocking.” – Lauri Newton
“Gathering at my parent’s house during the holidays and enjoying family time.” – Ellen Green
“Decorating with my mom – she was always the garland fluffer.” – Sheila Caddell
What was the best present you ever received?
“A telephone for my room at 14 yrs. old…which got taken away from me on a regular basis for being grounded for grades, curfew, etc.” – Alesia Kinard
” My 10-speed bicycle and doll house.” – Carol Hamilton
“The best gift ever received was born in a stable. His name is Jesus, and He came to save us all. (Luke 2:11 “For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord.”).” – Connie Sweeney
“When I was eight all I wanted was this Casio keyboard that had the ability to sample your voice and play it back at different pitch with the keys. My parents acted like it was not a practical gift, so I thought I wasn’t going to get it, but after all the other gifts were opened and I thought we were done, my dad had it hidden behind a door and surprised me with it. I drove my family crazy playing with that thing.” – Michael Barton
“A trip to the 2013 National Championship Game. AUB vs. Fla St. in Pasadena, Ca.” – Robert McCary
“Leaving the day after Christmas to go to Disney World.” – Lauri Newton
“A Christmas stocking full of goodies from my mom.” – Ellen Green
“Another year with family.” – Sheila Caddell
We hope you and your family enjoy the beauty, peace and love the holiday season brings and make memories that will last forever!
