Project Spotlight: Birmingham Barons Graphics

Barons graphicsAs a locally-owned company, we’re always rooting for our home team, and this baseball season we’re excited to support the Birmingham Barons. The minor league baseball team has been a staple in the Birmingham community since 1985 and is the Double-A affiliate of the Chicago White Sox.

Over the years, the Barons have gone through a lot of changes. In 1887, the team played most of its games at Slag Pile Field, located on 6th Street between 1st Avenue North and the Alabama Great Southern Railroad tracks. Birmingham millionaire industrialist, A. H. “Rick” Woodward, purchased the Barons in February 1910 with aims to construct a new ballpark. Construction of Rickwood Field, the first concrete-and-steel ball park in the minor leagues, was completed prior to the first game played there on August 18, 1910.

Many years later, it became apparent that Rickwood Field could not host the Barons forever, so the team made plans to move to the Hoover Metropolitan Stadium in 1988. The Baron’s won three titles while playing at the MET. The 1994 season was especially historic for the Barons when NBA superstar Michael Jordan switched sports and was assigned to play for the Barons. With Jordan on the team, attendance skyrocketed and the team received media attention from around the world.

Though the Barons play a “throwback” game at Rickwood Field (The Rickwood Classic) each year, the Barons now play at Region’s Field. The newly-constructed, 8,500-seat baseball stadium is located in Downtown Birmingham near Railroad Park. Before opening the 2016 season, the Barons turned to Alabama Graphics to adorn the inner walls of Region’s Field.

Barons_20x30_OversizeBanner_1aThe Barons’ design and printing solution resulted in two over-sized mesh banners. One graphic is a photo of Michael Jordan dressed in his Barons uniform, and the other features a photo of Regions Field and the team celebrating its 2013 Southern League Championship. With our printing capabilities, we were able to print two 20 by 50 feet, full-color banners.

So, what are you waiting for? Head to the ballpark to check out these graphics. While you’re there, grab some peanuts and crackerjacks and cheer on the Barons. Check out the full schedule here.

DCX has the capability to produce a variety of banners at almost any size in every color possible. We offer a variety of custom options as well. Give us a call today, and we’ll find a banner to fit your needs.
